BADGER CULL
Over 250,000 badgers have been shot dead in England during the Government's misguided cull of badgers in an effort to prevent bovine TB in cattle. This is thought to be well over half the national population and has made an insignificant difference to the incidence of the disease in cattle. In Shropshire alone, it is estimated that 15,000 badgers have been killed either through culling or illegally shot. Where we once had wonderfully active badger setts, we are now finding completely derelict setts with no sign of life throughout the county.
